    Sports Day 2025

Hello High Grange legends and sporting superstars,

Still catching your breath after Sports Day Live 2025? Same here. What a day! From the opening races to the final baton change, the energy was sky-high at the glorious Mickleover playing fields. For the first time ever, we welcomed parents to join students and staff for what turned out to be a record-breaking, cake-filled, sunshine-soaked celebration of all things High Grange.

With the reigning champs Dove looking to secure a historic three-in-a-row, tensions were high. Raven and Hawk arrived fired up and ready to take them down. The question on everyone’s lips? Could anyone stop the Dove dynasty?

Thankfully, unlike last year’s weather tantrum, the skies were kind and the fields stayed dry. Our athletes could finally take centre stage without dodging raindrops or gym benches.

    High Jump Drama
The high jump was a showstopper. James “Air” McLarren-Hall brought flair. Oliver “Front Flip” Charlton-Potts brought style. But it was Jack “Anti-Gravity” Prichard who brought the record-breaking magic. His flawless form and explosive lift saw him sail over the bar and straight into the school history books. Unbelievable scenes.

    Incredible Efforts Across the Board
Every house brought their A-game. Raven’s Harry Hughes deserves major respect for entering every event and smashing the 60m sprint. Dale was so fast, his shoes couldn’t keep up and made an early exit mid-race. Calum stepped in like a pro for the relay and hit a new personal best. Theo launched his javelin with rocket-like power and Amber made the 100m sprint look effortless with her lightning pace.

    Fuel for the Fighters
Spectators and athletes kept energised thanks to the wonderful charity cake sale, a massive thank you to all who donated, baked and bought! And let’s give a huge shoutout to Dianne from Mickleover Social Club, who served up fresh drinks and delicious coffees throughout the day. You kept the parents refreshed and the caffeine levels championship-ready.

    And the Results Are In...
Hawk took a solid third place and Raven were hot on Dove’s heels all day long. But once again, it was Dove who soared the highest. Three years. Three victories. High Grange’s very own 90s Chicago Bulls. An unstoppable team. Can anyone dethrone them in 2026? Time will tell.

    Final Thanks
None of this would happen without our behind-the-scenes heroes. Massive thanks to the PE dream team - Alex Patrick, Emma Black, Ethan Hopkins - and to our commentator and crowd-pumper Phil McBride and a special mention to Zoe Thompson who we would be lost without. You brought the energy, the organisation and the laughter.

So as we head towards Tuesday’s Athletics Event, let’s hold onto that team spirit, resilience and joy. Whether you won medals, beat a PB or just had the loudest cheer squad, you were part of something special.

Until next year... stay active, stay awesome and keep soaring.

    Yours in sport,
    Alex Patrick
